Genetics of flower color in Linum grandiflorum Desf.
Main Article Content
Abstract
A study was conduced to know the mode of inheritance of different colors of corolla petals in Linum grandiflorum Desf. Four pure lines with crimson, copper, pink and apricot color of the flower were crossed among themselves. The F1 hybrids of crimson x copper, crimson x pink, copper x apricot and pink x apricot were made. The crimson color completely dominates over copper color, while copper color dominates over apricot color. The segregation pattern in F2 populations of each cross was studied through Chi-square test to test the significance of observed classes. The genotype of the four lines proposed are-Cf-Af-Si (crimson color), cfcfAf-Si-(copper color), Cf-Af-sisi (pink color) and cfcfafafSi-(apricot color). The si allele in the homozygous state equally suppresses the dominant and recessive alleles of af gene. The suppression of corolla color in certain genotypes makes the phenotypes indistinguishable.
