Abstract
ODe baDdred and forty four semhrinter and wiDter varieties of breadwbeat(Triticum aestil'UID L.) were saeened for their racdoD to powdery mildew at the seedling stage and to stem, leaf and 'strIpe rosts al maturity, UIlder natural and artiftdaI epiphytotic c:ooditions at WelliogtoD ill the Nilgiris. TIle stocks were also investigated for the hybrid necrosis genes. The winter wbeats were found to be either Nel-carriers or nODClllTiers; only ODe variety, Opal, _ found to be Ne1-<anier.
