Combining ability and heterosis for seed yield and its components in Indian mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern and Coss)
Main Article Content
Abstract
A line x tester analysis involving 29 promising female and seven male parents were carried out for 10 quantitative traits in Indian mustard. Among the parents, 5KM 93-28, V5L-5, Y5RL-10, 5TRAIN-26, AO-2041, OB5-10 and KBJ-3 were found to be significantly superior general combiners for seed yield and yield components. The cross Y5RL-10 x Pusa Bold, OB5-10 x Pusa Bold showed high heterosis for seed yield and some of the yield contributing traits. For most the major characters including seed yield both additive and non-additive gene action were of prime importance.
