Born in Ghograpar, Nalbari, Assam, India 1st January, 1966. Educated at Ghograpar High School, Ghograpar, 1976-1983, Higher Secondary studies at Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati, 1983-1985. Graduation and Post-Graduation from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam, 1986-1992. Obtained the Ph.D. degree from South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China,1999-2003. Got Post-Doctoral training at Purdue University, USA, 2012.

Research Areas: Molecular breeding of soybean and rice. Developed a novel mapping population called Single Segment Substitution Lines (SSSLs) in rice. Working on creation of genetic variability in soybean through wide hybridization, elimination of anti-nutritional factor through marker-assisted selection (MAS), understanding mechanisms of seed viability in soybean, genetics of various traits and QTL mapping.
