Born at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, India on 24th July, 1979, Dr. Salej Sood did high school (1991-1993) and seniorsecondary (1993-1995) from SD Chand Public Senior Secondary School, Palampur, HP; B.Sc. (Hort), College of Horticulture, Dr. YSP University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, HP, 1995-1999; M.Sc. (Ag) in Plant Breeding (1999-2002) and Ph.D. in Plant Breeding (2002-2005), College of Agriculture, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur, HP.

Dr. Salej Sood started his professional career as Associate Scientist (Plant Breeding) in ITC R&D Centre, Hyderabad, 2006-2010; joined ARS Scientist (Plant Breeding) at ICAR-Vivekananda Institute of Hill Agriculture, Almora, 2010-2017;currently he is senior scientist (Plant Breeding) at ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla 2017 to till date.

Awards/Honours: UCOST Young Scientist Award 2013; Boshi Sen Scientific Appreciation award2015-16; Endeavour Fellowship, Australian Government 2018; NAAS Associate 2019

Research Areas: Resistance breeding; MAS, GWAS, GS; F1hybrid potato breeding

Major research contributions: Developed and released12 varieties through CVRC& SVRC,  7 genetic stocks and published >75 research articles. Identified donors, putative SSRs governing blast resistance and SNPs for agronomic and nutritional quality traits in finger millet. His current research focus is on GWAS and genomic selection for key traits in potato breeding. Develop elite inbred lines for hybrid TPS potato breeding.
