Born
at village Banyar, Tehsil Thunag, Distt Mandi Himachal Pradesh on 26th
September 1971. Dr Mohar Singh did Master’s (1996) in Agricultural Botany from
Chaudhary Charan Singh University Meerut, and Doctorate (2001) in Plant Breeding,
from Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur.
Dr.
Singh started his professional career (2002) as Assistant Professor (Genetics
& Plant Breeding) at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry
Solan. In 2009, he was selected as Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding) at
ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi. Since 2015, he is
working as Principal Scientist at ICAR-NBPGR Regional Station Shimla.
Awards/Honours:
Harbhajan Singh memorial award of ISGPB 2013; Dr BR Barwale award of ISPGR
2020; Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India 2021.
Research
Areas: Pre-breeding and genetic enhancement in pulses.
Major
research contribution: Developed two varieties one each of Buckwheat and Quinoa
through CVRC and two of lentil through SVRC. Registered eight genetic stocks in
NGB and six farmer varieties in PPV&FRA.
The
Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding feels proud to bestow on Dr.
Mohar Singh the Fellowship of the Society for his significant contribution in
management of Plant Genetic Resources.
