ROY DR BIDHAN

Born on May 10, 1973, Dr. Bidhan Roy obtained his Ph. D. in Seed
Science and Technology from the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur,
Nadia 741252, West Bengal in 2003. He started his professional career as Subject
Mater Specialist (Plant Breeding) with Cooch Behar Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Uttar
Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV), Pundibari, Cooch Behar 736165, West Bengal
in 2005. Joined as Assistant Professor (Plant Breeding) in Regional Research
Station (Terai Zone), UBKV, Pundibari during 2007. He has been working with UBKV
in various positions, such as Head, Department of Seed Science and Technology;
Dean, Students’ Welfare (Actg.) etc. In 2014, he joined as Associate Professor
in the Department of Seed Science and Technology, UBKV. He is the Founder Head
of the Department of Seed Science and Technology, UBKV and till date he is
continuing as Professor and Head. Dr. Roy has developed two rice varieties
another two rice varieties have been submitted to State Variety Release
Committee for release in West Bengal. Many of the rice genotypes are in
different stages of AICRIP trials. He has a large collection of Farmers’
Varieties (FVs) of rice. He facilitated to submit 97 FVs of rice, three FVs of
potato and two FVs of mustard to PPF&FRA, New Delhi. Out of those 102 FVs,
registration certificate of 18 varieties have already been received and
distributed among the concerned farmers or farmers’ organization. His current
focus is development of blast tolerant rice varieties.
Dr. Roy has secured research funding from various national sources,
such as BARC, DBT, DST, ICAR and private organizations. Currently, Dr. Roy is the
Principal Investigator of three research projects and Co-PI of two
multidisciplinary projects.
Dr. Roy has published 75 research papers, 06 books, 21 book
chapters, 03 practical manuals, 04 review papers, 03 popular articles and 04 symposium
articles. He has guided 03 Ph. D. scholars and 06 M. Sc. students. Dr. Roy has
delivered many invited lectures on seed production and crop improvement.
He is life member of a number of
national and international scientific societies and Founder Secretary of Cooch
Behar Association for Cultivation of Agricultural Sciences at UBKV. He has
organized 04 national seminars and many training programmes for farmers, acted
as resource person in training organized by different institutes, acted as
external examiners of different Agricultural Universities, reviewed research
papers for different reputed journals.
The Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding feels proud to
bestow on Dr. B. Roy Fellowship of the Society for his outstanding contributions
in rice breeding other scientific achievements.
