Dr. Ashwini Dutt Pathak, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow was born on 1st January, 1962 in the Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh. He completed his B.Sc. (Ag.) in 1981 and both M.Sc. & Ph.D. in Genetics & Plant Breeding from ANDUA&T, Ayodhya, UP in 1983 & 1999, respectively.

After serving for nine years as Scientist & In-charge at two Regional Centers of SBI, Coimbatore he joined ICAR-IISR, Lucknow. During 2011 to 2016, he served as Head, Division of Crop Improvement, ICAR-IISR Lucknow during 2011-2016. Presently, he is a Director and Project Coordinator of AICRP (Sugarcane). Dr. Pathak had multiple research and managerial responsibilities at IISR, Lucknow as In-charge, Regional Centre Motipur, Sugar beet Breeding Outpost, Mukteshwar. He developed 14 sugarcane varieties for two maturity groups of different Agro-climatic zones. He has also developed 9 genetic stocks in sugarcane and 16 in sugar beet.

Dr. Pathak significantly contributed to the sugarcane improvement program and worked for seed replacement through breeder seed production under private-public partnership mode in Bihar, which was recognized by the task force for improving sugarcane productivity and sugar recovery by the ministry of consumer affairs. Dr. Pathak is involved in the distribution and commercialization of IISR technologies such as sugarcane varieties, multi-tasker trench planters, ratoon management devices, sugarcane intercropping, bio-control, and quality jaggery production technology. This resulted in India's highest-ever sugar production.

He has received many prestigious awards from different International/National professional societies like Dr. Punjab Singh Vishisth Vaigyanik Award by UPAAS, Lucknow; Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar; Rashtriya Gaurav Puraskar; Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi Puraskar, etc. He has published more than 100 research articles in international and national journals of repute with NAAS rated, 26 popular articles and manuals, 130 abstracts published in national/international seminars/symposiums, published 5 technical bulletins, 10 leaf folders, three e-technical bulletins, and three e-folders. He has written 20 book and book chapters and handled eight externally funded and 35 institutional research projects.

The Indian Society of Genetics and Plant breeding feels proud to bestow on Dr A. D. Pathak the fellowship of the Society for his outstanding contribution to Genetics and Breeding.
