Born at Shikaripur, Karnataka, India on 20th May 1968, Dr. Suma Mogali completed B,Sc. (Ag.) in 1990 from University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad, Karnataka (1986-1990); M. Sc. (Ag.) in 1993 from UAS, Bengaluru, and Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from UAS, Dharwad in 2005.  She holds a PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights.

Dr. Suma Mogali started her professional career as Agricultural Officer from 1994 to 2005,  SMS (Plant Breeding) in KVK Dharwad from 2006-2007, Assistant seed production officer from 2007-2014 in Seed Unit and from 2014 to 2021 as Pulse Breeder and currently she is working as Principal Scientist (Plant Breeding) and Head, AICRP on MULLaRP at UAS Dharwad.

Dr. Suma Mogali is recipient of various awards and honours which include Team member, National Award for The Best DUS Test Centre(State Agricultural University category) 2011; Team member, National Award for Best Breeder Seed Production Centre of AICRP-NSP (Crops) 2013-14 by DSR, ICAR, Mau; Dr M.S. Swaminathan Award 2021 instituted by Society for Plant Research, Best Poster Award in  2016,  Invited as resource person/oral presentation  in various  national and international conferences,  Member of Academic Council/Governing Body of universities; Member Board of Studies at Dept of Biochemistry, Yuvaraja College, University of Mysore during 2012-2014

Dr. Suma Mogali has developed and released three varieties (one each in green gram, black gram and linseed) and has also contributed to the development of 10 crop varieties as collaborator. She has registered two genetic stocks of linseed each with NBPGR and IAEA mutant data base. She has published 48 research papers in National and International journals, 68 abstracts in National and International conferences, delivered 20 radio talks and forty lectures as a resource person in various training programmes. She has handled 13 externally funded and in house projects worth 250.92 lakhs as PI and Co-PI. She has also guided 13 students as chairman and 58 as member of advisory committee.
