Born in Churu, Rajasthan, India on 1st February, 1977, Dr Hanif Khan graduated from Collage of Agriculture, Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner during1994-1998; M.Sc. (Ag) Plant Breeding and Genetics (1998-2000) from SKN Collage of Agriculture, Rajasthan Agricultural University; Ph. D. Genetics (2001-2006) from ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.

Dr. Khan started his professional career as Scientist at ICAR-CIAH in 2008. Joined as Scientist (SS) at ICAR- IIWBR, Karnal in 2012 and became Senior Scientist at ICAR- IIWBR, Karnal in 2017 and continuing as Senior Scientist.

Dr. Khan was recipient of Rajasthan Agriculture University Gold Medal -2000, CSIR-UGC- Junior and Senior Research Fellowships 2001-2006, Recipient of Endeavour Research Fellowship (Government of Australia), 2014. Member of Expert Group Wheat -Control of Wheat Pathogens and Pests under Wheat Initiative, Germany.

He has made significant contribution in wheat breeding. Contributed in the development of eight wheat varieties including mega varieties like DBW187 and DBW303. Eighteen traits specific wheat genetic stocks were registered with NBPGR New Delhi.  Also contributed in the development of two Indian bean varieties and one brinjal variety. Standardized crossing technique in Ber (Ziziphus mauritiana).  Identified and catalogued novel broad spectrum leaf rust resistance gene Lr80. Published 45 peer reviewed research articles and authored/edited one book, one manual and two technical bulletins.
