Born on 1 October, 1960 in Pauri district of Garhwal division of UTTARAKHAND. Educated at GIC, Kotdwara, UK (1974-75), PB Municipal Intercollege, Haridwara, UK (1976-77). Graduated (B.Sc) from Govt. P. G. College, Gopeshwar, UK (1977-79) and Masters (M.Sc.) in Botany from H.N.B. Garhwal University, Srinagar, UK (1979-81).

Joined in service at IARI, New Delhi in January,1986 in Division of Genetics. Completed Ph.D. degree in Genetics with Molecular Biology & Plant Breeding as minor from P.G. School, IARI, New Delhi in 2001. Associated in genetic improvement programme of pulses : pea, lentil, cowpea and chickpea for 24 years at IARI; later joined the wheat programme and continuing the same since 2010.
