Born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India on January 1, 1964. Educated at G.B. Pant University Agricultural and Technology and obtained B.Sc. Ag (Honours) & A.H., M.Sc. (Ag) Plant Breeding and Ph.D. (Plant Breeding) degrees in 1983, 1985 and 1990, respectively.
