Born at Talai, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh (India) on 29^th Nov., 1972 Dr. Vinay Bhardwaj got educated at Govt. Sr Sec School, Talai,Primary, 1978-1983; Govt. High School, Namhol, Matric, 1987-88; Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Bilaspur, 10+2, 1989-90; Dr. YS Parmar University of Horti. & Forestry, Solan, B.Sc (Horti.), M.Sc. (Vegetable Science) &Ph.D (Vegetable Science), 1990-1999.

Dr. Vinay started his professional career as Scientist with ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla on 22.11.1999 and presently working as Principal Scientist, Division of Crop Improvement and Seed Technology in the same institute till date.

Awards/ Honours: AwardedDr. S. Ramanujam Award (2012-15) for Outstanding Research and Leadership & Best worker award (2017) by ICAR-CPRI, Shimla. He has been Awarded Fellow of major professional societies viz., Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences (IAHS), Indian Potato Association (IPA) & Indian Society of Vegetable Sciences (ISVS). He got best paper/ poster awards (17) by various professional societies.

Research Areas: Potato conventional and molecular breeding; Biotic stress breeding; MAS.

Major research contribution: Developed 17 potato varieties. Registered 15 elite potato genetic stocks with ICAR-NBPGR, N. Delhi. Published 87 research papers in high NAAS rated journals and total publications >200 covering wide subject areas. Organized national & international trainings (14) as co-ordinator/ convener. Handled >25 projects as PI & Co-PI. Handling collaborative project (Rs. 2.06 crores) on GENOME EDITINGfunded by ICAR-NASF as Consortia Principal Investigator (CoPI). Handling extra-mural project (Rs. 35 Lakhs) on GENOME-WIDE MAPPINGfunded by SERB (DST) as PI, besides handling the ICAR-BMGF funded project (Rs. 2.00 crores) for improving the genetic gain in Indian staple crops (Potato) as PI

He established linkages with >30 public and private institutions for commercialization of ICAR-CPRI technologies and generated revenue of about Rs >3.0 crore as Incharge. ITMU Cell. He got international exposures in Germany, China, Indonesia, Peru, Bangladesh, Canada etc.
