Dr. Jai Prakash Jaiswal obtained his B.Sc. Ag. (Hons) & A.H., M.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph. D. degrees from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUA&T), Pantnagar in 1983, 1985 and 1990, respectively.  He started his professional career as Assistant Maize Breeder cum Quality Control Officer at Mahendra Hybrid Seeds Co. Ltd., Jalna (1990-92); Scientific Office (Plant Breeding) at U.P. Council of Agricultural Research, Lucknow (1992-2003); Associate Professor at GBPUA&T, Pantnagar in 2003 and became Professor in 2009.  Currently he is working as Programme Coordinator of AICRP (Wheat & Barley) and Nodal Officer of Pantnagar Centre for Plant Genetic Resources at the University.

Currently, Prof. Jaiswal has made significant contribution in wheat and barley improvement by integrating classical and molecular breeding approaches. He has developed and released 15 wheat and one barley varieties; registered 6 extant varieties of wheat with PPV&FRA, 12 germplasm with ICAR-NBPGR having unique traits; identified novel QTLs for heat and drought tolerance, pyramided genes for rust resistance and quality traits using MAB approach. He has successfully completed /working on 11 externally funded research projects including competitive grant projects as PI/Coordinator. He has guided two PDFs, eight Ph.D., and 13 M. Sc. (Ag.) students, and published 90 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, four edited books, two compendiums, six technical bulletins, 10 book chapters and 40 technical/popular articles. 

 Prof. Jaiswal is the recipient of many prestigious awards and honours which include Fellow of Indian Society of Genetics & Plant Breeding 2017, Padma Shri Dr. M.V. Rao Memorial award 2019, Dr. R.B. Ekbote Award 2019, Dr. Bir Bahadur Singh Outstanding Scientist Award 2019, Dr. Radhakrishan Best Teacher-Researcher Award 2021, Excellence Certificate as Reviewer of the Indian Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding (2019), Faculty Excellence Awards (2013 and 2021), Leadership of Academician Programme (LEAP) certificate of the Ministry of Human Resource Development; Dr. K.S. Krishnan (DAE) Senior Research Fellowship from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay for Ph. D and University Merit Certificates (1981-82 and 82-83).  He was a consultant to FAO in Myanmar in 2001. Visiting Scientist at International Centre for Maize and Wheat Improvement Programme (CIMMYT), Mexico in 2007 and also visited Australia, Canada, Japan, Russia, Turkey and the USA.
