VARIATION IN CHIASMA FREQUENCY IN TRITICUM DURUM

EACH species is generally characterised by constancy in karyotype as also number
of bivalents, chiasma frequency and other components of meiotic chromosome
behaviour. Whil~ studying the meiotic behaviour, intra-specific variations in
chiasma frequency at late diplotene/diakinesis were noticed in seven strains of
T . durum. The data collected have been summarised in Table I.
