VARIABILITY AND HERITABILITY OF YIELD AND OTHER QUANTITATIVE CHARACTERS IN NATU TOBACCO

THE indigenous tobaccos (Nicotiana tabacum L.) grown in Andhra Pradesh fall
into
two distinct groups-those grown in the islands of the Godavari and
Krishna rivers and those grown in the plains. The tobaccos grown in the
plains are characterised
by sessile, long and linear leaves with folded or wavy
leaf-margins. The indigenous tobaccos grown in Mysore and Madras States
have broad, medium long, leaves. Thus,
a high range of variability exists in
these types
