Important

POLLINATION IN BERSEEM

Published on

THE lowered seed setting of induced autotetraploids has been the chief
barrier to the economic exploitation of autoploidy not only in the crops where
seed is the produce of commerce but also in the large scale cultivation of induced
tetraploids of forage crops. Various morphological, genetical, cytological,
embryological and physiological factors contribute towards a reduced seed
fertility in polyploids. In the present note, studies on pollination in diploid and
autotetraploid
berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) are reported.
