INHERITANCE OF SEEDLING RESISTANCE TO SOME INDIAN RACES OF YELLOW RUST IN THE CROSSES OF RUST RESISTANT BARLEY VARIETY E.B. 410

Published on

BARLEY is an important cereal crop in India and is grown over large areas. Rusts,
as in wheat, cause heavy economic losses in this crop also. Researches have been
undertaken at this station to develop yellow rust resistant varieties of barley for the
north Indian hills. However, at present no information is available regarding the
genetics of resistance
r-o individual races of this rust prevalent in India. Therefore,
along with the breeding work, investigations on this aspect have also been initiated.
The objectives of these studies are:- (i) to investigate the mode of inheritance of resistance to individual races of yellow rust, (ii) to determine the inter-relationships between
the genes governing resistance to different races, and (iii) to locate non-allelic genes
for resistance to individual races. The results presented here are a part of this
programme.
