INHERITANCE OF RUST RESISTANCE, STEM BLOTCHING AND OTHER MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS IN BREAD WHEAT

Published on

To incorporate rust resistance from diverse sources into improved indigenous wheats,
a large collection of whe3t varieties from many lands are being maintained. Two
exotic wheat varieties, viz., Kentana-Bage
X Frontana-Uriquiza (E. 4458) and \'\T.
379 (E. 3236) have been observed to be resistant to black and brown rusts at seedling
as well as at adult plant stage. An attempt was, therefore, made to transfer their resistance to commercial wheats. The available hybrid material was utilized for the study
of inheritance of resistance to the two rusts in the mature plant stage and other
characters.
