INHERITANCE IN AMARANTUS

Published on

WHILE raising seedlings of Amarantus gangeticus Lirm. for studying the botany of
economic crops, among a
large population of green-stemmed and green-veined
plants, a few individua1s with white stems and white veins were observed.
Both the types bred true for the green or white colour; crosses between them
were effected by twisting the spikes of the two individuals together and bagging.
Seeds,
collected in due course. were then sown in the field to raise F, generation.
The crosses were repeated thrice and three different F" populations raised.
