THE traditional method of plant breeding is based mainly on selection and
hybridization. However, in recent years two new tools-polyploidy and
mutation have become available. Of these, mutation appears to be particularly
potent; it provides the basic raw material-variability-for the plant breeder.
The present study reports the frequency and spectrum of macro-mutations
induced by some physical and chemical mutagens in different varieties of bread
wheat (Triticum aestivum).
