GENOTYPIC AND PHENOTYPIC VARIABILITY IN YIELD AND OTHER QUANTITATIVE CHARACTERS IN GUAR

Published on

Guar (Cyamopsis psoralioides DC.) is an important kharif legume in the arid regions of
India. Since many of the plant characters, which are of economic value, are quantitatively inherited and highly influenced by environmental conditions, it is difficult to
judge whether observed variability is heritable or due to environment. There is,
therefore, imperative need of partitioning the observed variability in to its heritable
and non-heritable components. The purpose of the present investigation was to
evaluate the genotypic variability in yield and other quantitative plant characters in
a collection of 64 indigenous varieties of
guar, with the hope that such an information
may prove useful to plant breeders.
