GENIC ANALYSIS OF RICE II CHLOROPHYLL DEFICIENCIES

Published on

LIKE other crop plants :rfoe also exhibits an extensive array of
chlorophyll variations. Commercial varieties range from deep green
to
a very light green foliage. Within this tange there is a continuous gradation of depth of chiorophyll which defies any attempts at classification. These chlorophyll variations are subject to both environmental and genie
control. It it well known that the addition of nitrogenous manures
deepens the greenneg, of plants. That the slight
vari~tions in chlorophyll
intensities are caused by hereditary factors is proven by the frequent
observation of plants with various intensities appearing
in synthetic
material. Indeed, it
is possible to build up strains of rice with varying
depths of chlorophyll.
