Mugbean germplasm comprising of 713 lines were evaluated for 12 characters at the Punjab
Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The variation with regard to pubescence of leaves, flower
colour, pod colour and pod shape was very low; for other characters including, growth habit, number of
primary branches, number of secondary branches, field resistance to yellow mosaic virus, days to maturity,
pods per plant, clusters per plant and seeds per pod, there was sufficient variability present. A few lines
have been reported which possess the desirable traits and their use in breeding programmes have been
suggested.
