COLCHICINE-INDUCED POLYPLOIDY IN CROP PLANTS II. CHILLI (CAPSICUM ANNUUM L.)

THE production of polyploids in crop plants by treatment with colchicine
was.started at the Imperial Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi,
in t~e year 1938 and a number of different species have been under study
since then. 'A comprehensive account of work done and the results obtained
with gram (Oicer arietinum L.), together with a discussion on colchicincinduced polyploidy, is under publication (Ramanujam and Joshi, in the
press). In the present paper a fuller account of work done on chilli is
given ; a prelimina:ry report of results obtained with this species was
published earlier (Pal and Ramanujam, 1939).
