Dr Aruna C. did her Ph.D. in the year 1994 from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. She is working as a Principal Scientist at Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad.
Dr Aruna C. has significantly contributed in the field of Sorghum improvement. She has been working on different aspects of sorghum improvement like improving sorghum parental lines for yield, grain quality, grain mold resistance and shoot fly resistance. She also worked on improvement of forage sorghum genotypes and served the All India Co-ordinated Sorghum Improvement Project as Principal Investigator of forage sorghum. She is now serving as the Principal Investigator of kharif grain sorghum breeding in AICRP-Sorghum. She has four grain sorghum hybrids and three varieties to her credit. She was involved in the development of the landmark variety in sorghum, CSH 16 and was honored with a certificate of recognition. She developed 25 genetic stocks for important traits and registered with NBPGR. She has identified the QTL for shoot fly resistance. She was involved in developing five farmer participatory technologies for improving the kharif grain quality.
Dr Aruna C. received NFP fellowship from the government of Netherlands in 2007. She has published about 34 research articles in reputed National and International journals. She was involved in the research projects financed by NATP, DBT and NAIP. She received outstanding scientist award in National Siridhanya awards 2019 organized by Govt of Karnataka and IIMR, and was elected as the fellow of ISGPB in 2015-16.
Considering all her achievements and outstanding contributions in the field of Agriculture (Genetics and Plant Breeding) the BOARD OF AWARDS of the ISGPB has recommended her name for the Dr A. B. Joshi Memorial Award 2019 as such the Academy confers upon her the same today on the 14th December 2019
