TME interrelationships of the three
species, Phaseolus aureus (2n —22),
green gram, P. mungo (2 n= 22), black
gram, and the only known allotetraploid Phaseolus
species (2n=44) are of interest from cytogenetical point of view and
in the breeding programme
involving these species. Earlier investigations on the pachytene karyology as well as
pairing behaviour of the pachytene chromosomes of P. arrest and P. mungo
(Krishnan and De, 1965 ; De and Krishnan,
1966a, b) had led to the realization of
their relationships. Likewise
karyological studies, at
pachytene, in the allotetraploid Phaseolus
species (Krishnas and De, in press) and cytomorphic studies of the F, and back-cross plants of P. aureus autotetraploid x tetraploid Phaseolus sp. (Krishnan and De, 1968)
have brought to light the genomic
homology between these
two species. To
elucidate the relationships of inung0 and the allotetraploid Phase0lus species cytomorphological studies of F,
and cytological studies of amphidiploid
of P. m8ugo x tetraploid Phase0lus species were carried out.
